Ok...There are so many great National Park moments. Okay, so on our honeymoon, we had planned to do some camping. Ended up deciding not to, so we drove west, leaving the gear behind. As we drove through Teddy Roosevelt National Park (in North Dakota), they were advertising that camping was free through May 15 or something like that. We started talking about that, and decided we were going to camp there on our way back.

So we picked up some things in Montana -- a couple camp blankets, a lantern, a canteen or two -- and we headed home.

We hiked into the park to camp, found a great spot, set up "camp" -- and ended up awake nearly all night. It got down to something like 30 degrees (29?) and we were out there with a couple of serapes and one wool blanket. It was COLD. As soon as the sun was up enough that we could see at all, we broke camp and headed back for the car. We dozed in the car, heater running full blast, for a couple of hours before heading home.

What were we thinking????Debrahttp://debrakb.blogspot.com/noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6329175748671625705.post-3343623500400335262010-08-19T23:04:26.000-07:002010-08-19T23:04:26.000-07:00I follow you!I follow you!Debrahttp://debrakb.blogspot.com/noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6329175748671625705.post-17297929857548001922010-08-19T23:34:06.000-07:002010-08-19T23:34:06.000-07:00My favorite national park is Glacier National Park...My favorite national park is Glacier National Park. Hmms....well ...Favorite Nat'l Park Moment heh? Hmms....
well the time we were driving thru the Shanandoah Nat'l Park (behind my BIL and SIL's car) and as we're winding thru the roads we stopped cuz we spotted this black, wiggly thing on the road....OK, it was a very large Llk. Rat Snake. So hubby stops and opens his door to just take a closer peak, and the thing just about jumped into his face in attack mode-after we all screamed-we laughed our buns off. That thing was in a nasty mood! The men of the group carefully guided the thing off the road to a safer local. I actually loved holding (briefly) the giant Blue Mt. Swallowtails there-so gorgeous, but it felt like I was holding a bird, they are that big!Sherihttp://homeschoolblogger.com/members/sheri/noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6329175748671625705.post-42431162605260426622010-08-20T04:23:39.001-07:002010-08-20T04:23:39.001-07:00July 4th celebration at Mount Rushmore over 15 yea...July 4th celebration at Mount Rushmore over 15 years ago. Met an old man who helped carve part of it. Jet Flyby, parachutists with the American flag, etc. Incredible. Also, was able to meet Jimmy Stewart who had come to Rapid City for a parade that same week.Kimberlyhttp://homeschoolblogger.com/members/jesmicwilmom/noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6329175748671625705.post-91975932498763731872010-08-20T04:23:39.000-07:002010-08-20T04:23:39.000-07:00Following you!Following you!Kimberlyhttp://homeschoolblogger.com/members/jesmicwilmom/noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6329175748671625705.post-3453725348905718852010-08-20T04:37:25.000-07:002010-08-20T04:37:25.000-07:00Hmm... favorite National Park moment. That's ...Hmm... favorite National Park moment. That's a hard one, but I'd have to say that watching my hubby and daughter's face as we arrived at the Grand Canyon was priceless. I had been there when I was younger, but it was their first time. I tried to explain that pictures just didn't do it justice. When they saw it for themselves, they understood.

While we were hiking through the park, we saw elk up close and personal. My daughter, being a huge animal lover, thought this was just "so cool".

It was a great trip even if there was snow on the ground. lol!Heather @ Marine Corps Nomadshttp://marinecorpsnomads.comnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6329175748671625705.post-92232051957674504392010-08-20T04:40:44.000-07:002010-08-20T04:40:44.000-07:00I already follow your blog.
